Welcome to Orientation, the first ever New School tournament!
This event, brought to you by ApexGaming.GG and hosted by Tandy, features Swiss rounds of the New School format based on attendance. It will be streamed on Twitch.tv/tandy by watching matches through discord and the Magic Online client.
The New School Format is comprised of cards from the last 4 years of Magic: the Gathering's Standard legal rotation, starting with Throne of Eldraine and ending with The Brother's War.

The following cards are banned in New School:
Once Upon a Time; Oko, Thief of Crowns; Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath; Omnath, Locus of Creation
This tournament will be run on Magic Online. Please have your username ready to share with your opponent. Use the "Freeform" option as the format for your deck in both deck construction AND when challenging. Clocks will default to 40 minutes per player, but be aware that rounds are only 60 minutes. At the end of time called, if one player has (10) fewer minutes on their clock, they will lose the match. Otherwise, it is a draw.
If at any time a player discovers that their deck contains illegal cards, here is how we will fix it:
If during a game: player with illegal card concedes the game. They remove all illegal cards, and replace them with cards from New School that are legal for your deck. If there are more games to play, the match will be restarted, and play will resume with the correct record of games played, as well as the correct player choosing the play or draw. This will require both players communicating to make sure the outcome is fair and correct, as the game will default the person who concedes the game having the option. If your opponent is supposed to get the option of play/draw, choose accordingly after talking with them.
If not during a game: player with illegal cards will replace them with cards from New School that are legal in their deck. No further penalty will be administered. This is a new format, and it is difficult to use search functions to check legality. We are trying to have some fun!
Decklists will be open, so you can see what you're up against before the round begins. This is to ensure tournament integrity as many matches will be streamed. Since decklists are open, we encourage you to skim your opponent's list before starting the match, both to see what you're playing against AND to help check for legality.
Tournament begins at 7:00pm
Each round will be 60 minutes. Matches can end in an unintentional draw, as the play clocks on "Freeform" default to 40 minutes per player. If time is called, and a player has (10) fewer minutes on their clock than the opponent, that player loses the match, even if they are not in Game 3.
