Announcing the BCDL Open taking place Saturday November 12th at Brewdog Brewery and Hotel! The first large Legacy event allowing playtest cards making Legacy available to everyone!

Event Date - Saturday November 12, 2022. Check-in begins at 9 am with player meeting and round 1 pairings at 10 am.

Location - Brewdog Brewery 96 Gender Rd, Canal Winchester, OH 43110.

Location Website - https://www.brewdog.com/usa/bars/usa/brewdog-dogtap-columbus Coverage - https://www.twitch.tv/buffalochickendiplegacy. Coverage team to be announced later.

Entry - $140 per player which includes lunch. There is no signup option that does not include lunch. As this event is at an alcohol establishment you must be 21 years of age or older to participate.

Format - Legacy with use of Playtest cards - see Playtest card policy in the Rules section for full details.

Schedule – Check in will begin at 9 am with the first round beginning at 10 am. Lunch will be served between rounds 3 and 4 with an hour break before the beginning of round 4. While this is fluid due to the nature of tournaments, I anticipate food to be out around 12:30 pm - 12:45 pm with the lunch break being approximately 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. It will be your responsibility to be prepared for the start of each round. An announcement will be made likely before round 3 regarding timing for lunch. Lunch – There will be a lunch break after round 3 and before round 4 begins. Lunch will be a taco bar with two protein options and a vegetarian option. Unfortunately, Brewdog requires us not to bring food on-site so our famous buffalo chicken dip will not be available for this event.

Covid-19 Safety – Proof of full vaccination or negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event is required. Masks will be required in the play area which is beyond the partition separating the bar space and play space. Masking will not be required in any other area of the event space or venue except the play area unless state or local government or venue guidelines require otherwise. Masks will not be required in the play area during the lunch break, but will be required to be worn at the end of the lunch break before the next round of play begins.

Alcohol – Alcohol will be available for purchase from the brewery and is not included with entry. There will also be a partition separating the main play area from a small bar set up in the event space. The small bar area will have some tables, but alcohol will not be allowed into the main play space during the event other than at lunch and after the conclusion of Swiss rounds.

Signup - Signup going on now by contacting us directly on Facebook or Twitter (@bcdlegacy) or through MTG Melee at the link below. At the time of signup, we’ll need your entry fee, picture of your Covid-19 vaccine card, and MTG Melee email (if not signing up through Melee). If you sign up through MTG Melee you’ll need to email a picture of your vax card to buffalochickendiplegacy@gmail.com or provide a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of the event. If you do not do so, I will drop you from the tournament in Melee. The tournament will be capped at 128 players.

I need to give a final headcount to Brewdog Brewery by October 19, 2022. Meaning if you do not sign up by then I cannot guarantee you a spot. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO SIGN UP.

Vendors – We’re happy to announce that Taitan Game Shop (www.taitangameshop.com) will be joining us and vending at the event. They will be set up in a conference room off the back of the main event space. All buying and selling of cards for cash must be through them. Anyone caught “backpack vending” cards will be removed from the event. Tales of Adventure were previously scheduled to join us but had to back out, this is a change from previous event update. We’re working on securing another vendor for the event and will update everyone if another vendor agrees to join the event.

Side Events – At a minimum we’ll have 1 case of Double Masters 2022 for drafting and at least 4 draft pods of 8 players each. Entry per player per pod will be $70 with 12 Double Masters 2022 draft packs as prizes. Prize distribution will be 5 draft packs to the pod winner, 3 draft packs to 2nd place, and 2 draft packs for 3rd and 4th place. More side events may be announced prior to and at the event if there is interest.

Playtest card policy – BCDL will loan playtest cards to players wishing to borrow these in lieu of real Magic the Gathering cards from BCDL’s Playtest Library. This is a change from smaller BCDL events where printed playtest cards are allowed. There will be an online form closer to the event to fill out and playtest cards will be picked up the morning of the event during check-in at the scorekeeper table. These cards are indistinguishable in size and weight from regular Magic cards, but will not use a Magic card back and different art. All cards must be either authentic Magic cards or cards from the playtest library. Playtest cards will be given to you in smoke perfect fits and must be used in fully opaque sleeves. It is your responsibility to confirm your sleeves are fully opaque and playtest cards are not identifiable through sleeves. Judges will be happy to examine your deck during check in before play begins. We recommend using Dragon Shield Dual Matte sleeves. No printed playtest cards for this event. A cash deposit of $20 is required and will be returned to you upon return of the playtest cards. The cards currently available for loan are: 1) Savannah; 2) Underground Sea; 3) Tropical Island; 4) Volcanic Island; 5) Tundra; 6) Plateau; 7) Scrubland; 8) Taiga; 9) Bayou; 10) Badlands; 11) Gaea’s Cradle; 12) Lion’s Eye Diamond; 13) Grim Monolith; 14) Force of Will; 15) Null Rod; 16) Mox Diamond; 17) The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale; 18) City of Traitors; 19) Intuition; 20) Aluren; and 21) Personal Tutor.
