The Constructed Set Roulette format was originally created by Pascal Maynard and his local friends with the intent of maximazing and showcasing players deckbuilding skills. Because of today's information traveling so fast thanks to the internet and the amount of games that are played in relevant formats, we've been having the feeling that Magic's deckbuilding aspect is not like it used to be.
We came up with the idea of determining at random 2 Big Expansions, 3 Small Expansions and a Core Set to become the constructed format that we would all play on an upcoming weekend. It was an absolute blast to brew for a few days and gather and play to see who came up with what. Imagine doing that online with TONS of players!
Here it is.
We will use the same rules, except we will (obviously) only determine expansions at random within those available on Magic Online. The drawing of the 6 expansions will be done live on our Twitch channel Saturday July 11th at 1 PM (EST).

Deckbuilding Contest
Zvi Mowshowitz, one of the most respected deckbuilders of all-time will be choosing winners for the following three categories. The winners will be chosen at the end of the last round, before Top 8.
Prize Structure will be revised upwards if there are more than 100 players and also revised downwards if there are less than 50 players. Thank you for understanding.
Players streaming the event that reach the Playoffs will get a $10 bonus. To be eligible to get the bonus, players need to link their twitch account to mtgmelee.com and stream the event until they are eliminated.
*Most items purchased on themythicstore.com will only ship to USA and Canada, but if you are outside these countries, we will gladly transfer your store credit to another person's account upon request. This would make the process easier if you trade or sell it to someone in these countries. Store credits are in Canadian amounts.
The Tournament will begin on July 19th, with the following schedule in Eastern Time (EDT):
Everything happens in your "Player Controller" page.
Pairings will be announced in the form of a notification, voice notification, SMS notification (if you activate it in your profile settings) and your player controller page will display your pairing in the "Current Pairing" section.
You will have 5 minutes to check-in and start your matches. You will be dropped if you don't start communicating with an admin or your opponent 5 minutes after round is paired. Pay attention to all notifications throughout the tournament.
The MTGO timer will display 40 mins for each players, however, we don't want more than 50 minutes rounds, with that said: If a player's MTGO timer goes below 15:00, that player loses the match regardless of the game score. Please take a screenshot in the event that this happens. That means each player will have 25 minutes each.
Players will be contacted an hour after the start of the round regarding the status of their match if the result is not yet reported. If there is no response within 10 minutes both will be dropped.
Any types of connection issue, bugs, anything related to your game crashing/not functioning properly will not result in restarting the match. If it happens to you and only you, it is your fault, it is unfortunately the only to deal with this in a fair way. Anything else will be dealt with in a civilized and fair fashion.
Problem with your match? Talk to an admin using the chat tab in the bottom right corner.
Issues with MTGMelee? Contact us via our Discord server as a last resort!
In the event that there is a dispute between players, we may ask for a screenshot in order to better understand a situation, or as a way to have proof that something is occurring. We also highly-recommend that you take a screenshot of every Victory screen when playing in a tournament, showing both players’ names; in the event of a dispute over which player won a match, these screenshots will generally act as concrete-proof of a victory.
